I WAS not born in Nottinghamshire but am a long term resident of Kirkby-in-Ashfield. I would like to acknowledge the fantastic achievement by Becky Adlington.
It may never be repeated again in our lifetime and I know it will be talked about for many, many years to come.
To reach two Olympic finals in the toughest of swimming’s indoor events is outstanding in itself, but to get two medals as well is just exceptional.
I have heard and read words such as ‘disappointing’ and ‘failure’ to describe this.
The town I was born in has an athlete who won one bronze medal and they are being treated as a hero by local people, the media and the country.
Becky you are now an even bigger star than in Beijing, you now have four Olympic medals. I will be very proud to stand in the rain to see you complete another home coming celebration parade.
