Family of terminally ill Mansfield woman: '˜Thanks to you all for your kindness'

Friends and family have hailed the success of a fun day held to raise funds for a terminally ill Mansfield Woodhouse woman, as the whole community rallied around and came forward with offers to help.

The fun day was organised to raise money for Emma Brown’s honeymoon after her wedding to her partner, Darren Langford, and for anything else she may need to make her life more comfortable.

It took place at the Sunnydale Inn, Mansfield Woodhouse – and raised £921 for Emma.

The fundraising day was a real community affair, as funds were raised through a car wash, tombola and a raffle, and there was also children’s entertainment, with lots of family and friends in attendance to ensure the day was a positive occasion.

Close family friend Karen Barker, speaking on behalf of Emma’s family said: “It was a fantastic day.

“We appreciated the help to get to the target of £921.

“We are overwhelmed with the support, and would like to thank everyone who helped on the day.”

“We are truly thankful to everyone, and Emma is doing well.”

“The wedding is being taken care of and we can’t thank the lovely people who have helped us enough.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support.”

Emma, aged 38, was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier in the year, and after learning the cancer had spread, her family and friends want to grant her wish to marry Darren.

Emma, who worked at King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton, before her diagnosis , has two daughters and a young grandson.

Zoe Holmes, a friend of Emma’s, said: “She’s a true Mansfield Woodhouse lass, and the community has pulled together for such a sad situation. She has a heart of gold and would do anything to help anyone.”

“It’s no age to be diagnosed with a terminal illness.”

Tracey Lapko, Sunnydale landlady, said: “It was brilliant, a really lovely day.

“The whole garden was packed out, there must have been more than 100 people there. We had hook a duck, and plenty of games for the kids, and I hope Emma and her family were happy with the event.”

Generous offers from readers have been flooding in since last week, when your Chad first told Emma’s story.

Karen and the rest of the family said they wanted to everyone for their generosity, especially Paint Chip, Zoe Holmes, Naomi and Becky Osbourne, adn Dawn Barker

The family have asked for privacy at this difficult time.
