Exclusion area in Warsop to tackle 'antisocial' gangs
Warsop police officers have instigated a dispersal order following an increase in reports of antisocial behaviour over the past couple of weeks.
They've found that mostly groups of 10-18-year-olds have been causing trouble in the evenings in the Warsop Town Centre area, particularly on High Street, Carr Lane, Ocean Drive and Coral Crescent.
These instances have involved individuals running over parked cars, lying in the road, standing and walking in front of vehicles both on foot and on pedal cycles.
Police have been working with Mansfield District Council to tackle the problem, and a number of young people have been "spoken with".
Now the exclusion area has been put in place which means that any child found within it and believed to be causing issues, can be issued with a Direction to Leave between the hours of 4-10pm Monday to Friday and 12-10pm Saturday and Sunday.
There will also be an increased police presence and will be stepping patrols during key times.
Neighbourhood Police Constable Kev Parsons said: "We've really been left with no choice but to take a tougher approach against antisocial behaviour in the Warsop area. It's causing great distress to residents and visitors and really can't be allowed to continue. Whilst we will exercise these dispersal powers wherever necessary, we will also be forced to go down the criminal route if these youngsters are not willing to work with us.
"We ask parents to be mindful of what their kids are up to in the evenings and that if anyone has any concerns or wants to report antisocial behaviour, then call us on 101."
