Ex-miner paedophile from Rainworth jailed after 40 years

Eric Alfred James Stubley, 71, of Cambridge Close, was found guilty of eight counts of indecent assault having preyed on two young girls back in the 1970s.

The former miner, who had previously worked and lived in Blidworth, was jailed for two years following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court and will be forced to sign the sex offenders’ registers for the next 10 years.

One of his victims, who was forced to give evidence in court against him during the week-long trial, said she had waited a long time for him to be convicted.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons told the Chad: “I have been shouting about what he did from the rooftops for years but nobody ever listened to me.

“He tried to keep it quiet for all these years but it’s been a long time coming and now everybody knows what he is. Justice has finally been done.

“He put us through this court case and it was horrendous having to give evidence, but now I’m just crying with relief.

“It’s affected me my entire life, I’ve never been able to form healthy, lasting relationships because I just can’t trust people.

“It’s a had a major impact on my life.”

Nottinghamshire Police’s Detective Constable, Rebecca Kelly, the officer in the case, said: “This case proves that it doesn’t matter how long ago the offences took place, Nottinghamshire Police will, in conjunction with its partners, work to investigate these matters to ensure, where possible, that cases are put before the courts.“The conviction and sentence serves as an important message to people that time is no barrier in reporting these matters.”
