By day, Casey’s Coffee Bar on White Hart Street is popular with shoppers and workers alike.

But on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, with seating changed, dimmed lighting and special menus, the venue becomes a bistro.

Owner Ros Key said: “Mansfield has a thriving night-time economy, which has been proved by its recent Purple Flag award.

“We were often asked if we could hold special evenings and so we decided to go for it and offer something a little different for people.

“We have so far had a great response and definitely shows that people want good food at good prices in a comfortable but stylish setting.”

Mansfield won the Purple Flag accolade following judging from Association of Town and City Management (ATCM) assessors.

Purple Flag is an accreditation scheme that recognises excellence in the management of town centres at night.

One bistro diner, Lorraine Clayton wrote on the cafe’s Facebook page: “Just had an amazing meal here on their Bistro evenings, three courses for £15.95 amazing, I have no idea how they serve such wonderful food for that price.

“Everything came out tasting fabulous, we’d like to wish wish everyone every success in their new venture.”

Sarah Nelson, Mansfield Business Improvement District (BID) manager, said: “Ros has really brought the cafe forward since he took it over quite recently and it’s great to see that the town centre’s popularity has seen him launch the bistro evenings.”
