A budding seven-year-old cyclist is to ride from Bolsover to Clumber Park and back to help his Beaver group build a new home.
Ethan Ellam and his dad Stephen hope to help the 4th Bolsover Scout troop towards the £2,000 they need to build the new hut on land just off Welbeck Road.
The troop have been without a home for 12 years but they now want a more permanent base in order to attract new members to the group with exciting activities such as archery.
Ethan’s dad Stephen, 43, said: “The scout leader told us that they would welcome fundraising ideas and when I mentioned a bike ride to Ethan he was very keen as soon as it was suggested.
“So we started looking on the map and trying to figure out a route from where the group currently meets at the Parish Rooms in Bolsover to Clumber Park and back to Bolsover again.”
And Stephen says Ethan’s mum, despite not being a cyclist herself, is very keen on Ethan’s big trip.
“She’s actually very keen on it and is really chuffed with him for doing it,” said Stephen.
“Fortunately, Ethan has got some road sense so we’ll be fine.”
Bolsover to Clumber Park and back again...
The father and son team will set off from Bolsover’s Parish Rooms on March 12 before heading to Clumber Park and then back to Bolsover Castle - a 30 mile round trip in total.
Stephen only started cycling a year ago but as soon as son Ethan saw him going out on his bike, he wanted to go along as well.
Ethan is now a member of Bolsover and District Cycling Club and has been going out on 16 mile rides in preparation for his big trip.
