Erect headstocks by M1

As an escapee from London to Nottinghamshire in the late 70s I saw the quick demise of the coal industry that had been so famous and well respected throughout the country.

It’s passing seemed to go without a statement to its importance in the region. It seems to me (a mere southerner) that a fitting tribute to the coal industry and a reminder of Nottinghamshires roots would be to erect the two headstocks (at the old Clipstone Colliery) on the M1 border of the county both southbound and northbound to symbolise the coal industry and to act as a permanent monument.

I would think this idea has been raised before and if not it should hold some merit as to coin a phrase, ’when it’s gone it’s gone, there must be some money out there’!
