Shirebrook community comes together for litter pick as part of fight back against single-use plastic

A Shirebrook man has joined the fight against single-use plastics after watching a television show which highlights the amount of plastic that is used in this country.

Inspired by BBC One’s War on Plastic, Ashley Taylor began digging into statistics for the area and discovered Bolsover was rated 206th in council recycling tables.

This led to him forming the Plastic Free Shirebrook group, and he is now appealing for people living in the area to get involved.

Ashley set about organising regular litter picks in a bid to try and tidy up the village and reduce the amount that ends up in landfill.

Volunteers braved wind, snow and freezing temperatures to collect 12 sacks of rubbish.
