The centres across Nottinghamshire are now open seven days a week between 8am and 8pm from Saturday, August 1, until Wednesday, September 30.

Nottinghamshire County Council, however, warned that queues may be likely as sites adhere to strict social distancing measures.

But it is hoped that the extended hours will ease congestion at busier sites, including the centre on Kestral Road in Mansfield, as some people opt for an evening visit.

All centres are operating on a ‘one in one out’ basis and may have to close temporarily during the day to allow for cleaning, or for the changing of containers.

They will accept a wide range of items including textiles, glass bottles and jars, scrap metal, car batteries, garden waste, electrical appliances as well as engine oil and cooking oil.

Only personal household waste is permitted though – trade waste, commercial waste, or waste from home building projects can’t be taken and 'man with a van’ services are unable to use recycling centres under any circumstances.

There are some still some restrictions in place for those visiting to be aware of.

For your own safety, and the safety of others using the sites, only one person is allowed per gantry or skip at a time – although you can take an additional adult who lives in your household with you if you have a large item to unload or you are disabled and need assistance.

Staff are able to offer advice but currently cannot physically help with moving waste or recyclables.

Sensible footwear must be worn at all times and waste put into skips carefully to avoid injury.

To save time, it's advised to sort your waste into types which will help to recycle as much as possible as currently there is no sorting on site.

Nottinghamshire residents are also reminded that they need to register to use any of the council’s 12 recycling centres, if not you will be turned away.
