Forest Road is home to a new community allotment for Mansfield residents, set up by local nursery owner Zoe Jackson.

The allotment is currently overgrown and Zoe is looking for volunteers to begin clearing the allotment ready for work to begin planting fruit and vegetables.

A successful bid for funding from the Robin Hood Lottery Community Fund allowed the project to get the green light earlier this year, until coronavirus and lockdown halted the plans.

Zoe explains: “We have the funding, now we just need people to help.

“The plot has become overgrown, so we now need volunteers to help clear the area so we can start planting.”

Zoe has set up a facebook page for the allotment, and is organising events to encourage people to come forward to help.

Mansfield Woodhouse residents have also begun work on their own community allotments, situated on Northfield Avenue, organised by councillor Amanda Fisher and her team.

Amanda said: “During lockdown I had to shield due to a heart condition – as a district councillor I found this frustrating as I’m always out in my ward doing litter picks or community projects.

“The idea of setting up a community allotment seemed the best way I could help residents to maintain healthy lifestyles and stay active.

“It has been a lifeline for some.”
