'Litter Heroes' fighting back against litter louts

As the country eases back into some version of ‘normal’, litter is unfortunately on the rise once again.

Residents of Shirebrook and Langwith are coming together to do their bit to keep the area’s streets and green spaces tidy.

The Langwiths and Shirebrook Litter Heroes describe themselves as a ‘friendly group of locals who have had enough of seeing other people’s litter blighting our beautiful areas’.

They meet several times a month and litter pick throughout Langwith and Shirebrook to keep the area clean, whatever the weather.

Toni Everett is one of the organisers who posted pictures online of their recent litter picking efforts, despite the pouring rain.

She said: “I want to say a big thank you and well done to each and everyone that turned out tonight despite the rain.

“Hope to see you next time and hopefully we can all encourage more people to join us.

Litter pickers, bin bags and high-visibility vests are provided by Bolsover District Council, who also dispose of the piles of rubbish that are collected by the volunteers.

Shirebrook is also proving once again that their residents go the extra mile for the environment, after a family butchers also became the first ‘Plastic Free Champion’ in the area.
