Environment chief in cooking-oil warning

People are being reminded to avoid pouring fat down the drain and recycle oil.

Used cooking oil can be taken to the region’s recycling centres, where it is collected by Living Fuels and turned into ‘green’ electricity.

If poured down the sink, it can lead to blockages and
be harmful to the environment by polluting water courses.

Coun Jim Creamer, environment chief at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Cooking oil recycling is a great initiative and has proved to be a success.

“More and more residents are using this service year on year but we’d really like to encourage everyone to recycle their oil.”
