A group of employers from across the East Midlands visited the Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge this month in recognition of their support for the Armed Forces.

The group, which included employers, from Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, were taking part in an employer engagement activity.

The majority of those attending signed the Armed Forces Covenant, pledging to support employees from a range of defence personnel.

They were intrigued to see the bunker that played a crucial role in the defence of the country when it was under attack in 1940.

Now under the ownership of a local council, the bunker housed the Fighter Command Operations Room throughout the war, from which much of the RAF’s Battle of Britain activity was co-ordinated.

The group also visited the plotting room, which houses a large map table and squadron display boards and is visually exactly the same as it was when Winston Churchill visited back in 1940.
