Nottinghamshire Fire Service warns people to be safe with barbecues after woodland fire

Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service (NFRS) has urged people to be cautious and take care when using barbecues after the recent hot weather.

Firefighters from Mansfield attended a fire in the open at Cauldwell Dam in Sutton on July 11 and whilst on site, found an abandoned barbecue in the middle of dry grass.

As a result, the Fire Service has now issued a warning to people to stay safe with barbecues.

Posting on its Facebook page, NFRS said: “With the warm weather and dry conditions, disposable and portable barbecues can quickly start fires, putting people, wildlife and local habitats at risk.

“Never place a barbecue directly on grass or other combustible surfaces.

"Ensure it is fully extinguished and cool before leaving.

“Take all litter and barbecue equipment home with you.

"A small decision can have serious consequences.

"Please enjoy the outdoors responsibly and help us prevent unnecessary fires this summer.”
