Ellen’s generosity buys Guide Dog 294

Chad’s long-established Guide Dogs for the Blind Fund has another dog thanks to the stalwart support of one of the charity’s faithful friends.

Ellen Crocker, who shrugs off her 94 years, has for more than a decade been a regular contributor to Chad’s charity, which for the last 50 years has been the focus of community support in helping visually impaired people become more independent.

Despite two recent hospital stays, locally and in Nottingham, Mrs Crocker with the help of her collection jar friend ‘Bertie Bassett’ has continued to support her favourite charity, and last week handed over £700 to complete her £2,500 target to buy outright Chad dog no 294.

Family and friends attended an informal celebration at Parkside Care Home., Forest Town, to mark her achievement with a celebration cake sent by her grandson, Marc Wild, who lives in New York, and a surprise visit by Mr Bryan Fox, co-ordinator of the local Guide Dogs for the Blind Association branch, and his guide dog, Pluto.

Mr Fox -- who was accompanied by his wife, Janet, who is branch secretary -- is pictured presenting Mrs Crocker with a specially inscribed framed photo from the GDBA watched by Tony Spittles, who co-ordinates Chad’s guide dogs fund.
