Edwinstowe woman Jane Broomhead pens new guide to dog friendly walking

DOG OWNERS in search of a walk where their canine companions will be made welcome need look no further thanks to a newly-released guide.

Edwinstowe woman Jane Broomhead has written a book with a collection of 20 dog-friendly walks in Nottimghamshire.

Jane said she was inspired to write the book, called Nottinghamshire A Dog Walker’s Guide, by members of the public asking about dog walks while working at Retford Tourist Information.

Said Jane: “At the time I was working at brown field sites doing butterfly conservation and I was thinking these would be great places for people to walk their dogs.”

Mansfield and Ashfield has a wealth of ex-mining brown field sites which now serve as walking areas such as Vicar Water, Ollerton Pit Wood, Blidworth Pit Wood, Brierley Forest and the Teversal Trail.

“I tried to choose walks that are completely off-road,” said Jane.

“Even if you do not have dogs they are still nice interesting walks. I am into promoting Nottinghamshire because of my job but I find it a wonderful county.

“The variety is brilliant. They are not strenuous walks but the wildlife is brilliant and the spring flowers on some of them are unbelievable.”

Each of the 20 featured walks contains directions to get there, points of interest, important dog factors such as livestock and stiles and recommended dog-friendly refreshment stops along the way.

Nottinghamshire A Dog Walker’s Guide costs £7.99 and is available from Amazon, WH Smiths and all good book shops.
