AN Edwinstowe RAF flight sergeant is taking a starring role at the centre of the Olympic action as a member of the London 2012 Flag Raising Team.
Antony Wingate (33), from 8 Squadron RAF Waddington, is a member of the team responsible for leading the procession with the medal winners’ national flags.
During the Fencing and Taekwondo events, Antony is also responsible for mounting the winners’ flags onto the trapeze ready for the medal presentations and national anthem, and is taking the same responsibility during the powerlifting event at the Paralympics.
Eight Squadron RAF Waddington is the UK hub of Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) supporting national and NATO operations.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to take part in this once in a lifetime opportunity,” Antony said.
