Beauty therapy students studying at Ashfield School’s Post 16 centre have been learning the tricks of the trade from an experienced industry expert.

Heather Utting, course co-ordinator/trainer at Rendezvous Mansfield - an independent trade hair and beauty supplier - visited the school to demonstrate the application of the latest in-demand nail treatment, the gel manicure.

Heather has been a trainer in the industry for some 20 years and is a frequent visitor to the school, sharing her extensive industry knowledge with students.

They not only saw Heather demonstrate the skill of doing a gel manicure but were given the chance to try it out on each other.

Course tutor Louise Brooks said that even though gel manicures are too new to be included in the Level 2 Beauty Diploma, she is keen for students to learn about them.

“We wanted to include the session in order to give our students an edge when seeking employment in the industry – this is a very popular treatment and by running the session we are equipping our students with the skills that a salon/spa owner will be looking for,” she said.

Student Jessica Sowter said: “The gel polish course was a great experience and will be of great use in my future career as a beauty therapist.”

The Hair and Beauty Salons at Ashfield Post 16 offer treatments to members of the public, by appointment, with prices starting at £3.50 for a manicure.

To book an appointment, call Ashfield School on Mansfield 455000 and ask for the beauty department extension 738.
