Top marks for town nursery

STAFF at Smarties Day Nursery have been praised by Ofsted for the ‘outstanding’ quality of their childcare and early years education provision.

The nursery on Nottingham Road, Mansfield, was inspected by the watchdog last November.

Steven and Christine Doubtfire, the husband and wife team that has owned the nursery for the past five years, are delighted with the report.

Christine said: “It’s great to see that all the hard work of the staff has been officially recognised and we will continue to do our best to support local families.”

Staff and facilities were rated as grade one, which denotes exceptionally high quality nursery provision, for meeting the needs of children in the early years foundation stage and for the effectiveness of early years management and leadership.

In particular the nursery was praised for its aspirational children’s care and focus on well-being and the relationship it has with the children’s parents and carers.

The report said that a stimulating environment was nurtured because staff, children and families all contributed to ideas for improvement.

The nursery was established in 2002 and currently is registered by Ofsted for 30 children each day from three months to eight.

It also supports children with special educational needs, disabilities and children who speak English as an additional language.
