Parents urged to make secondary school applications online as admission process for Notts kicks off

The application process for children transferring from primary schools to secondary schools across the county in September 2013 is under way.

Letters from Nottinghamshire County Council setting out the procedure for applying, key dates for noting and their child’s unique ID number are in the process of being sent out to parents and carers across Nottinghamshire.

Parents and carers can start applying for a secondary school place from today (Monday, 13 August).

The closing date for applications is Wednesday, 31st October 2012.

The council’s committee chairman for children and young people’s services councillor Philip Owen said: “The best way to apply for a place is online and this year we want to encourage more and more people to make their applications this way.

“It means that you can easily make changes to your application right up to the closing date and that you’ll receive news of the outcome of your application before those who apply by post.”

The council is also urging applicants to use all four preferences to minimise the risk of their child not getting a place at a school they’re all happy with.

“We recommend that you use all four preferences and that at least one of the preferences on your application should be for a school where you are sure that your child will meet one of the higher criteria for admission,” added councillor Owen.

“We’re keen to work with you to make sure that your child’s education is a positive and enriching experience, so please take every opportunity to also contact or visit schools for more information and to help you decide which schools you and your child would like to apply for.”

Of children transferring to secondary schools this September, 95.3 per cent of got their first preference school.

Offers of places will be made on Friday, 12 April 2013 by email to those who apply online. And parents and carers who apply by post will be sent notification by second class post that day.
