A Nottinghamshire college principal has been appointed to the board of an elite education foundation aimed at setting professional standards in Further Education.
Asha Khemka OBE, principal and chief executive of West Nottinghamshire College Group, joins six other professionals from the learning and skills sector to make up the board of The Education and Training Foundation – formally known as the FE Guild.
This new employer-led partnership, which will officially launch in August, will support the improvement of teaching, learning, leadership and management within the FE sector working closely with other sector bodies to explore opportunities for research and improving standards.
Mrs Khemka said: “It’s an honour to be part of this new and exciting organisation, which has such a vital role to play in ensuring our learning and skills system is truly world-class and responsive to the needs of employers and communities in the 21st century.
“This is an era of unprecedented change for the sector, where the opportunities and flexibilities for providers have never been greater – yet with these come an even greater responsibility for managing our own affairs.
“The Education and Training Foundation is the embodiment of this increased autonomy and I am very much looking forward to bringing my knowledge, experience and, above all, passion for education, to the table.”
The seven initial board members will now appoint an independent chair and up to five further specialist directors to encompass all the independent skills, competencies and diversity needed for the board to fulfil its role.
Board members, who are not remunerated for their positions, will meet four times a year and serve for fixed terms to be decided at each annual general meeting.
