Four wardens, who operate on a borough-wide basis, have been given the bronze ‘Stray Dog Footprint’ award from the Community Animal Welfare Footprints and RSPCA Innovator Awards in recognition of their hard work in the Broxtowe.

Councillor Mia Kee, cabinet member for community safety, said: “The council is delighted to have received this award.

“It is a credit to the neighbourhood wardens and, the work they do to improve the welfare of stray dogs they find in the borough.”

The wardens have helped to educate dog owners, ensured dog safety during the collection and kennelling and taken measures to reduce straying dogs.

They were assessed on a number of things, such as basic dog handling, health and safety, the treatment of injured or sick stray dogs, their out of hours service and education of owners.

These awards aim to recognise the hard work of local authorities, social housing providers and contingency planners and help share good practice on animal welfare.
