Deciding their ‘options’ after school can be a difficult time for school and college leavers, especially with the vast array of potential education and career paths on offer. But, if your child isn’t keen on attending university they may decide there is another option - an Apprenticeship.
Apprenticeships are the gold standard for work-based learning. They can learn job-specific skills and learn from the ‘masters’, working alongside experienced staff to gain the skills valuable for their future careers.
Newark and Sherwood District Council, Newark Business Club and the Newark and Sherwood Area Strategy Group are hosting an Apprenticeship event on Wednesday 21st March, 3pm to 7pm, in The Ballroom at Newark Town Hall to offer young people and their parents all the information you might need on the scheme.
An apprenticeship provides a job which enables them to ‘earn while you learn’ and gain an intermediate, advanced or higher-level, nationally-recognised qualification. An Apprenticeship provides work with top quality ‘off the job’ training with ‘on the job’ experience. In fact, people with an advanced level apprenticeship earn, on average, over £100,000 more than those without, over the course of their career!
Could this be a something your children are interested in? Then why not come along to our Apprenticeship event to find out more? You will hear about the benefits of Apprenticeships from the National Apprenticeship Service and they will be able to answer any questions that you may have.
You will also be able to talk to genuine employers in the Newark area who have actual apprenticeship vacancies. Some of the organisations attending the event who have apprenticeships available include:
Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, NSK, Derry Building Service, Gente Bella, Envy Hair & Beauty, Naturescape Wild Flower Farm, Northern Road (Service & Engineering) Centre Ltd, Gelder Group, Brownhills, Rushton’s Bistro, Laurens Patisseries, Living Local and Mick Dwane Car Sales.
There is no need to book, just simply turn up. If you require any further information please contact Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Growth Delivery officer, Julie Beresford, on 01636 655277 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
