AN OLLERTON school will officially re-launch as an academy at the start of next term.
Dukeries Academy will be opened on Monday after preparations for the transformation have now been completed.
The academy will be officially opened by Coun Stella Smedley, chair of governors and Ian Cleland, chief executive of the Academies Transformation Trust (ATT).
The launch will involve pupils taking part in challenging activities based around ‘raising aspirations’, including football freestyler Colin Nell and Nottingham Trent University.
There will be a continuous live feed of photographs and updates covering the events on the newly launched website, Facebook and Twitter.
The academy received an environmental improvement grant, which has been used to paint the corridors and stairwells.
Principal Danny Smith said: “I am very pleased with how the preparations for becoming an academy have gone.
“Staff have been working hard on making sure the essential financial, legal and physical changes required will be in place for opening.
“Next term will be both exciting and challenging and on the back of our best ever GCSE results over the summer and with our dedicated staff and wonderful students.
“I am looking forward to it with great confidence.”
