Drunk punched TV after all-day drinking binge

A jobless man became paranoid and punched a television screen after an all-day drinking session in Mansfield.

Luke Anthony Rawstron, 24, of Commercial Gate, Mansfield, also admitted smashing a glass table at the YMCA on Westfield Lane on January 23.

The court heard he had drunk ten or 12 pints of beer during the day with his friend who was living at the YMCA.

Rawstron had previous convictions for criminal damage and owed the court £320 in outstanding fines.

Rawstron told the court he had a drink problem and had sought help from a counsellor.

Magistrates in Mansfield fined him £85, and ordered him to pay compensation of £40, with £20 costs and a victim surcharge of £20.

An order was made to deduct the sum total from his benefits.
