Drugs haul found in Ashfield

TWO men have been arrested after the discovery of more than 200 cannabis plants, which had an estimated street value of £100,000, at addresses in Ashfield.

Officers raided a house on Sudbury Drive in Huthwaite last Wednesday and found a total of 207 plants being cultivated there.

Further information led to a search of a house on St Michael’s View in Selston, where more cannabis was found and recovered.

Early estimates put the street value of the haul at around £100,000.

A 39-year-man and a 31-year-old man were arrested on Wednesday and Saturday respectively on suspicion of production of cannabis and possession with intent to supply. Both have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Ashfield Neighbourhood Policing Inspector, Carl Holland, said: “This seizure of what is a significant quantity of cannabis illustrates the value of the information we receive from within the community, which demonstrates the strength of the relationship between our neighbourhood policing teams and local residents.

“While crime in almost all categories has reduced significantly in Ashfield, it is often noted that there have been increases in recorded drugs offences.

“We regard that as a positive development and reflects the growing confidence within the community that the police will act decisively on information that is passed to us.”
