Drug-driver more than three times the legal limit

Samuel Liam Key was pulled over after they spotted him weaving his Peugeot 306 from side to side on Forest Road in Ollerton.

They immediately smelled cannabis on the 25-year-old and found a small quantity.

A blood sample was taken and he was found to have seven mcgs of cannabis per litre of blood. The legal limit is two mcgs.

Lee, of Belle Eau Park, Bilsthorpe, was also found to have no insurance or valid MOT certificate.

Mitigating, Chris Perry said his client did have the correct driving documents, but for another car and had only just bought the Peugeot for work.

He said Lee had been on hard drugs previously, but had turned his life around and was now working.

However, he said he still used cannabis as a ‘crutch’.

Mr Perry said: “With his tolerance he is capable of functioning but accepts that it is a crime.

“He did not think through the consequences and losing his licence could be significant.”

Lee admitted driving while over the limit, possessing cannabis and driving without insurance or a test certificate.

He was banned for 12 months, fined £350 and made to pay £115 costs.
