Drug and alcohol service users become mentors

New Directions, the Nottinghamshire change, grow, live (CGL) service, held a graduation for service users who have gone on to become trained peer mentors.

New Directions provided an accredited fifteen week mentoring course for 13 of its service users with seven of them achieving level-two diplomas.

Service manager, Minesh Patel said: “This event was a fantastic way to celebrate the incredible achievements of our service users and to recognise their efforts and hard work.

“I am extremely proud of the service users that took part in the course to become peer mentors as they are integral to giving our service users the support they need on their journey to recovery.”

Peer mentors are individuals who are positive role models and provide active support for others starting on their road to recovery and supporting them to achieve their goals.

Cherrell Sellers, peer Mentor at CGL New Directions said: “The mentoring course was a fantastic experience.

“It has given me ongoing opportunities and I love being a peer mentor.”
