Drivers stuck on A1 for more than four hours after serious lorry crash

Nottinghamshire Police have distributed more than 500 bottles of water to stranded drivers and have now cut the central reservation to allow motorists to exit the A1 following a serious crash.

The crash today, Wednesday, July 18 happened at around 12pm involved two lorries and the air ambulance, fire, police and road ambulance were all on the scene.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “Barriers have now been cut to create a gap for traffic. Motorists stuck in the southbound carriageway will soon be directed by officers to cross the central reservation where they will be able to exit onto the A1 northbound and follow diversions

“Officers are currently distributing 500 bottles of water, with more on the way. We will be identifying those most vulnerable to the heat. Officers are working hard to begin turning cars around following a serious collision between two lorries this morning.”

Speaking earlier on a spokesman for Highways England East Midlands said: “The A1 is closed in both directions between the A6075 Tuxford and B1164 Carlton-On-Trent due to a serious collision involving two lorries.

“Nottinghamshire Police are on scene and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours, so please plan ahead.”
