Driver dies after van crashes into tree on A57 near Sheffield

A man has died after his van crashed into a tree on the A57 near Sheffield this morning.

South Yorkshire Police said emergency services were called to a collision involving a white Fiat Scudo van on the road, just prior to Lindrick Dale in South Anston, Rotherham, at around 8.15am today, Friday, December 18.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses or those with dash-cam footage to come forward and assist with their investigation into the fatal collision.

Police said it is believed the driver collided with a tree, and he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers believe the collision could have happened earlier in the morning at around 6:30am and are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have witnessed the collision or has dash-cam footage of the van,” they said.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Earlier today, traffic chaos was reported at the scene as vehicles were forced to be rerouted.

Eyewitnesses said the road was ‘completely blocked’ as emergency vehicles were seen attending the scene.
