Both men appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning, without representation, and spoke via the same Polish interpreter.

Breath tests revealed that Mazurek had 43 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, while Tkaczyk had 46 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

When interviewed, Mazurek said his family had been away for the night and he had ‘seen the opportunity to have some fun’, said Ruth Snodin, prosecuting.

Magistrates banned him for 13 months and fined him £255, with a £30 victim surcharge and court costs of £85.
