Dog chipping at Kirkby centre

Microchipping provides the security of knowing that should your dog stray, the chances of being reunited will significantly increase.

A district council spokesman said: “Whilst every dog owner is legally obliged to ensure that their dog is wearing a collar and tag, these can easily get lost or can be removed if a dog is stolen. A microchip is permanent.”

Dog owners will be able to get their pets microchipped free of charge at an event in Kirkby on Thursday 19th June providing that the dog is wearing a collar and a tag.

The dog handler must be aged 18 and over and it is strongly advised that puppies being chipped are vaccinated beforehand.

The event, will be held at the Summit Centre, Pavilion Road, Kirkby from 11am until 3pm and has been arranged to highlight a change in the law which will require all dogs to be microchipped from April 6, 2016.

The session is for dogs only. No appointments are necessary and residents can turn up on the day.
