District parks get royal seal

Four parks around the Mansfield area have been permanently protected to mark last year’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Titchfield Park, in Mansfield, Carrs Park and Carr Lane Park, in Warsop, and Peafield Park, in Mansfield Woodhouse have been designated as Queen Elizabeth II Fields.

The decision means the parks are now permanently protected for future generations, a spokesman for Mansfield District Council said.

It is part of a national campaign to protect outdoor recreational spaces in communities all across the country as a permanent living legacy of the Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 Olympics.

Cllr Philip Shields, portfolio holder for the environment, said: “It is excellent news that we now have four sites in our district protected and retained for future generations. These sites are great examples of how local communities will benefit from the Diamond Jubilee Project and the 2012 games.”
