Distraction thief tries to con a pensioner

A suspected thief who tried to con his way into the Mansfield home of an elderly lady is being hunted by police.

The man knocked on the property on Brick Kiln Lane claiming the occupant’s boiler needed emergency repairs, but the woman became suspicious.

It happened at around 10.30pm on December 5, and the man was described as being white, 5ft 9ins tall, aged between 20 and 30, of medium build, was wearing dark clothing and carrying a sports holdall bag.

PCSO Jessica Witton said: “The male was very pushy, this a distraction burglary technique used by criminals.

“They make up a story to get in to your home. Burglars need not go to the trouble of breaking in if they can just knock on your door and be invited in.”
