Residents across north Derbyshire are being invited to take to the airwaves by joining an amateur radio club.

Sheffield Amateur Radio Club is keen to recruit members across places like Dronfield and Eckington.

The club has been running for more than 30 years and meets at the Sheffield Transport Sports Club, in Greenhill Main Road, Sheffield, from 7.30pm every Monday.

A spokesman for the club said: “We’re keen to promote the hobby of amateur radio across north Derbyshire.”

Passengers using Derbyshire County Council-funded bus services are being urged to provide information about their journeys.

The county council must make cuts of £157 million by 2018, including making savings on the local bus and community transport services it supports.

Christopher Pennell, a former member and committee chair of the Peak District National Park Authority, has been recognised in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

He has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to Heritage in the East Midlands, which includes much of the Peak District National Park.

Mr Pennell, 67, was appointed to the authority by the Secretary of State in 2005.

A bus tour promoting a national business campaign stopped off in Chesterfield town centre on Monday. Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins jumped on board the bus to raise awareness about the Small Business Saturday drive, which takes place on Saturday, December 6. Chesterfield Community Care Farm has been awarded £2,000 in this year’s Lloyds Bank Community Fund.

Chesterfield Community Care Farm, which helps adults with learning disabilities, will use the money to continue doing good work in the community.

A spokesman for the group welcomed the funding boost.

Bolsover Castle and Peveril Castle in the Peak District appeared on TV over the weekend.

The attractions featured on Channel 4’s Walking Through History programme, presented by historian Tony Robinson, on Saturday.

A public meeting will discuss “devastating” cuts to adult social care.

The meeting, organised by disability campaigners in the area, will take place at Chesterfield library lecture theatre, in New Beetwell Street, between 1.30pm and 4pm on Friday.
