Chesterfield Borough Council’s leisure centres will each be closed for part of the Christmas period.

Queen’s Park Sports Centre, Boythorpe Road, will close from 4pm on Christmas Eve until Wednesday, December 31. It will be open on New Year’s Eve but close at 4pm. The centre will be closed on New Year’s Day but be open as usual from Friday, January 2.

The Healthy Living Centre, Staveley, will be shut on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It will be open on Saturday, December 27, Sunday, December 28, Monday, December 29 and Tuesday, December 30. It will be shut on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day but be open as usual from Friday, January 2.

Wirksworth officers are appealing for information after a number of shops and a garage were broken into. Between 10.30pm on Saturday and 9.40am on Sunday, offenders forced entry into a garage at a property on Slater Crescent. An orange KTM500 EXC 14 motorbike was stolen from within. Offenders also stole cash from the Wirksworth Festival Office and the Cats Protection League Office, both on North End, after thieves forced their way inside. A spokesman for Derbyshire police said: “Residents are being urged to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity to police to help stop a crime from happening.” Anyone with information should call PC Dan Mitchell on 101.

Two colourful, informative panels have been installed at Peak District viewpoints.

The panels, which are located close to the village of Elton at Moor Lane and Burycliffe, will help people enjoy the landscape and local history of the areas.

The panels and installation were funded by the Peak District National Park.

An auto-electrician apprentice from Chesterfield has been recognised as one of the best in the country after scooping four awards at a national ceremony. Sam Harris, 22, who works at Stagecoach in the town, was awarded the gongs hailing his expertise and attitude at Stagecoach’s annual Apprentice of the Year Awards.

Staff at Slimming World’s head office in Somercotes have raised pots of cash for the Movember campaign. The charitable fellas grew moustaches last month to raise funds and awareness for men’s health.
