DERBYSHIRE: MPs are ‘horrified’ after Woolwich murder

Drummer Lee Rigby, 25, was hacked to death near Woolwich Barracks by two men shouting Allahu Akbar (God is Great), eyewitnesses said.

Bolsover MP Dennis Skinner said: “I find it hard to believe that this kind of action can be equated to a form of religion.

“I can’t get my head round something so barbaric – I feel horrified about what happened.”

Mr Skinner hailed the women who attempted to shield the victim from his cleaver-wielding attackers in yesterday’s incident.

He said: “That’s the bravest action I’ve seen in a very long time.

“It takes a special person to do that type of thing.”

Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins added: “It’s an appalling situation.

“It’s completely unnaceptable that a serving soldier be murdered in cold blood.

“I’m pleased to see the Muslim Council of Britain has condemned this awful attack.”

NE Derbyshire MP Natascha Engle said: “I was shocked and saddened by the events in Woolwich – this is not what people going about their daily lives expect.

“My heart goes out to the family, friends and colleagues of the young soldier whose life was tragically lost not in conflict but in a needless and brutal attack.”

Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills added: “What happened in Woolwich was sickening and barbaric.

“I utterly condemn this attack and I am sure that people in every community will feel the same way.

“My thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of the victim.”

Derbyshire Dales MP Patrick McLoughlin said: “This is a very serious and concerning incident and I send my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the man who was killed.”

Speaking after the attack, Prime Minister David Cameron said the UK will “never give in to terror or terrorism”.
