At 8pm on Fridays, lanes one and two will be closed, leaving lane three open to traffic.

At 10am on Saturdays, lane two will re-open but lane one will remain closed.

At 8pm on Saturdays, lanes one and two will again be closed leaving lane three open to traffic.

All lanes will re-open at 10am on Sundays.

Arun Sahani, Highways Agency project manager, said: “Although most of the work will be carried out at night, there will be lane restrictions in place all day on Saturdays and until 10am on Sundays. We therefore advise road users to allow extra time for their journeys.”

A Highways Agency spokesman added: “The current 50mph speed limit will remain in place throughout these works to ensure the safety of road users and the workforce.

“The work is part of the scheme to convert the M1 between junctions 28 and 31 and 32 to 35a to a smart motorway. Once completed, the M1 will be four lanes from junction 25 to junction 35a, except across Tinsley Viaduct which increases from two lanes to three.”
