DERBY HOUSE FIRE: Parents weep as they enter not guilty pleas

A FORMER Mansfield man and his wife have pleaded not guilty to murdering their six children in a Derby house fire.

Mick Philpott (55) and Mairead Philpott (33) appeared at Nottingham Crown Court this morning in connection with the tragic blaze in Victory Road, Allenton, on 11th May.

They both wept as they entered not guilty pleas to murdering Jade Philpott (10), and her brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six, Jayden, five, and 13-year-old Duwayne.

A second man, who was charged with the six murders on Monday by Derbyshire Police, also appeared in the dock.

Paul Mosley (45) of Cecil Street, Derby, spoke only to confirm his name during the hour-long hearing.

A provisional trial date had been set for January next year but this is likely to be put back due to the late addition of a third defendant.

The Honourable Mrs Justice Kate Thirlwall remanded the three into custody. They will all appear at a directions hearing at Birmingham Crown Court on 29th November.
