Demolition underway at general hospital site
Nottingham-based CMEC Demolition began work on the former General Hospital in November, and now the site is nothing but rubble.
In October last year, Chad revealed that the costs of demolishing the building had spiralled to £940,000 - £360,000 more than first anticipated - following the discovery of asbestos at the site which needed special handling and removal.

“It’s amazing how quickly we have managed to turn this around. In the end there was no need for a compulsory purchase order and having got hold of it, we have got contractors on site, which has been derelict for more than 20 years.”
Once the demolition work is completed, the council’s housing department will also be clearing the way for residential development.
The next phase of the demolition will be the main building set further back into the West Hill Drive site.

It comprises a variety of buildings, the oldest of which dates back to before 1900.
