Dementia care project being held in Selston

The award-winning owner of a nursing home in Selston is leading an initiative to help the community become more ‘dementia friendly’.

Anita Astle, managing director of Wren Hall on Nottingham Road, is hosting two meetings at Selston Parish Hall in the next few weeks to increase awareness and local knowledge about dementia.

The first will be on Monday 19th May at 1.30pm and is aimed at anyone who is living with dementia, is a carer or has a member of the family affected by it.

Those attending will be able to share their experiences and offer their views on how Selston can become dementia friendly, as well as being an opportunity for those interested in the topic to find out more.

The second meeting is at the same venue on Wednesday 18th June at 10am and is open to any statutory agency, community group or business that would like to be involved in the project.

Anita, who was awarded an MBE in the 2014 New Year’s honours list in recognition of her services to the care of older people in the county, said: “As a specialist dementia care provider in Selston, we feel it appropriate that we take the lead on this important project, which was initiated by Skills for Care”.

The initiative coincides with National Dementia Awareness Week begins on 18th May.
