PEOPLE looking for a new council house in Ashfield or Mansfield are being urged to sign up before the end of the month.
Homefinder, which is a partnership between Ashfield District Council, Mansfield District Council, Ashfield Homes and other housing associations, will be launched in January and aims to give tenants more choice about where they live.
It covers both districts and applicants only need to complete one form.
Homefinder replaces Ashfield District Council’s points based lettings scheme and Mansfield District Council’s Moveahead scheme.
People listed on both councils’ housing registers have received a letter asking them to register their details with the new scheme.
All applications will be assessed and placed in one of five housing bands according to their needs.
If an applicant fails to register with Homefinder by 31st December, it will be assumed they are no longer looking for social housing and their current application for housing will be closed.
Bill Buckley, who is Interim head of health and housing at Ashfield District Council said: “This is great news for Ashfield and Mansfield tenants and local residents.
“Working together in partnership will achieve a more efficient service which is more effective and easier to access and will give a greater choice.
“I encourage all tenants of Ashfield District Council, Mansfield District Council and local Housing Authorities to register now and start using the system in the New Year.”
All of the available properties will be advertised weekly on the online property shop and in the councils’ housing offices.
A weekly property magazine called Letterbox will be available at various community outlets across both districts.
Registered applicants can bid for up to two properties each week at www.amhomefinder.co.uk or by the 24-hour automated line 0300 999 2399.
