Council workers have been called to a country lane where six dead sheep have been dumped at the side of the road.
The carcasses of the six animals were thought to have been left this morning on the A616, near Budby, between the Dukeries Antique Centre towards the junction with Netherfield Lane.
One horrified resident said the tags from the animals has been cut off before they were disposed of.
He phoned the environmental health at Newark and Sherwood District Council who was told it was not their responsibility, and trading standards needed to be notified.
A spokesman for the council has said the matter was now being dealt with.
