Dance school staff and pupils '˜devastated' after thieves stole cash

Step Up dance and fitness in Craster Street, Sutton, was broken into at around 5am on Wednesday, March 7.

The dance school is run by Tiffany McKenzie.

Tiffany said: “They have taken the children’s money for competitions, exams and costumes.

“So this means the kids are held back from being able to compete.

“We’re devastated.

“The support has been immense and it shows you that there are a lot of good people out there.

“Businesses have also come forward to offer us raffle prizes.

“I also want to make other dance school’s in the area aware that this has happened to try and keep other people safe and so they can take extra precautions.”

Charlotte Gregory said: “It’s just awful what’s happened.

“The money that was taken had been paid by parents for their children’s future competitions, exams and costumes.

“You see things like this happen on films but never think it will happen so close to home.

“We are all so heartbroken but we are all pulling together and organising fundraising events and emailing local businesses to see if they can make any donations.”

In support of the school a Just Giving page has been set up by a parent of one of the dancers.

Charlotte added: “We are also going to be doing a fun day on Saturday, April 1, from 11am to 2pm at the dance school to help raise money.

“The fun day will include, cake sales, sweet stalls, raffle, tombola, clothes rail, face painting and many more.”

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “We’re investigating a report of a burglary which happened at Step Up dance and fitness in Craster Street, Sutton.

“Two suspects broke in between 5.15am and 5.25am on Wednesday, March 7. They stole a safe containing cash, cash from tills and tools from the building before loading items into a vehicle and making off. We believe there was a third suspect waiting in a vehicle nearby.

“What appears to be a black Ford Fiesta was seen to drive past the suspect’s vehicle as they were loading the items.

“Anyone with any information about the burglary is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 313 of March 7, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
