Cycle challenge to boost Portland College’s £2m sports campaign

The team of riders will be completing a charity cycle ride on the Sunday 20th July to raise funds for the new facility with a testing circuit starting at the Newton Building in Nottingham.

The route will then loop around through various locations in Nottinghamshire, including Chilwell, Mansfield and Newark before finishing again at the start point.

Money is being raised by inviting people to guess the total distance of their circuit, which will be calculated on cycle computers.

Leading the team is former Portland College employee and volunteer Eric Lovatt, who said: “I have always wanted to do something for the College since leaving, and this bike ride is the perfect opportunity to get involved in fundraising. “The proposed new facility looks brilliant and will give disabled people from all over the East Midlands the chance to develop their sporting skills.”

Tracey Horton, Fundraising Executive at the College, added, “We are naturally delighted that Eric and the team have chosen Portland as recipients of their fundraising.

“The team can be assured that the fruits of their efforts will be put to great use to benefit our students and the local community.”

Also taking part in the ride is Portland College’s Catering Manager David Powney.
