Crown court date is set in child sex case

The case of a Sutton man charged with sexual offences against young girls has been sent to Nottingham Crown Court.

Nicholas James Russell (22) of Meden Bank, Stanton Hill, Sutton, appeared before Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 22nd May, charged with a total of seven sexual offences against minors.

He is charged with two counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14, three counts of sexual touching of a girl under 13 years of age, rape of a girl aged under 13 and attempted rape of a girl aged under 13 years old.

Russell entered no plea when he appeared before magistrates and the case was transferred to Nottingham Crown Court, where he will next appear on Thursday, 5th June.

The offences allegedly took place between January 2003 and September 2007 in the Ashfield area, the court was told.

Following the five-minute hearing, Russell was released on conditional court bail by magistrates.

Under the terms of his bail, he must not contact the alleged victims and must not enter certain parts of the Mansfield area.
