Young man posted footage of ‘absurdly dangerous’ drive through Mansfield on Facebook
A young man who filmed himself racing along Mansfield roads in an “absurdly dangerous way” was showing off when he posted the footage on Facebook, a court has heard.
A member of the public alerted police to the 30-second clip of Jack Slack driving at 70mph along Abbotts Road and Beck Lane, Mansfield, on October 27, 2024.
Julia Freytag, prosecuting, said the 19-year-old ran a red light and increased speed before overtaking into oncoming traffic and going the wrong way around a bollard.
Slack, who was 19 at the time, ignored the first notification from police and initially denied dangerous driving.

Philip Plant, mitigating, said: "As he says in the report, "I was showing off." He was hoist by his own petard.
"It is a relatively fast road where the limit is 60mph. He tells me it may have been some glasses that had the ability to record rather than a mobile phone.”
The defendant has been diagnosed with autism and hasn't re-offended for nearly two years, he added.
Slack, now 21, of Markham Road, Beeston, admitted dangerous driving when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court, in January.
"I can't for the life of me understand why you didn’t plead guilty in the lower court,” Judge Michael Auty KC told him on Friday.
"You managed to record yourself driving in an absurdly dangerous way. It is obvious that the road surface was wet. What would you have done if the car had aquaplaned and you lost control? Don't do anything like this again for heaven's sake."
Slack received an eight month sentence, suspended for two years, with 150 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation days.
He was banned from driving for 18 months and must take the extended re-test.
