Woman charged with neglect after death of child in Mansfield

Police were called to a house in Wharmby Avenue at around 6.30am on Friday to a report of concerns for the welfare of a child.

The child was taken to hospital for treatment before sadly being pronounced dead a short time later.

Katie Crowder, 25, of Wharmby Avenue, Mansfield, was arrested and subsequently charged with neglect.

She has been remanded into custody to appear at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: “The child’s death continues to be treated as unexplained at this stage, with a post-mortem due to take place in order to establish the cause of the child’s death.

“Formal identification of the child has not yet taken place.

“A police cordon remains in place at the address in Wharmby Avenue following the incident.”
