Wardrobe 'did not lead to Narnia' for man trying to evade Ashfield police

A 32-year-old man trying to evade Ashfield police was found hiding inside a wardrobe.

The Ashfield Police: Kirkby in Ashfield, Sutton in Ashfield area team reported on Facebook that it had found two males acting suspiciously down a footpath off Spring Road, on Saturday.

They described how the two men had then made off on push bikes. A large number of controlled drugs were discarded and recovered by officers during a foot pursuit.

Their post reads: “One male was stopped and searched however nothing was found. He was not linked to the discarded drugs.

“The second male, a 32 year old, known to officers, was located at a nearby address on Stevenson Crescent a short time later hiding in a wardrobe.

“He was arrested and interviewed at custody for being concerned in the supply of class A and Class B drugs and released pending further enquiries.”

At the address officers said they were “obstructed and assaulted” by one of the occupants. A 29-year-old was arrested and charged with obstructing a constable and assaulting an emergency worker.

The police quipped: “This wardrobe didn’t lead to Narnia, only a space in Mansfield custody.”

On Tuesday, a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant was executed on Hardwick Lane, Sutton-in-Ashfield. Four people were arrested concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

On Thursday a 21 year old was arrested for possession of cannabis, cash and a locking knife after dealing on Redcliffe Street. A 16 year old was in possession of cannabis. A warrant executed on Friday, at Aspley Road, Carsic Estate resulted in no offences identified.
