Wanted suspect in custody after allegedly hitting Mansfield man over head with hammer

The suspect who was sought by officers allegedly tried to barricade himself inside a room and is also reported to have threatened to assault police during an incident in Mansfield.
Officers were called to a property in the town after they received a report that a man was smashing up a home in Welbeck Street, near to Mansfield town centre at around 11pm yesterday (Sunday, January 24).

Hide AdPolice said it had been reported earlier that night that a suspect had allegedly hit a man over the head with a hammer and pushed a woman at the address before leaving the area.
Under concern for the man's safety, police entered the property on Welbeck Street and tasered a 26-year-old man – after he is claimed to have repeatedly threatened violence towards an officer.
The 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and possession of cannabis after he received care from emergency workers.
He was then taken to hospital to be checked over and currently remains in police custody.

Hide AdChief Inspector Chris Sullivan said: "Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances concerning this incident.
"I'd like to reassure people that Nottinghamshire Police takes all reports of incidents involving weapons extremely seriously.
"We will investigate reports and take appropriate action against those suspected to have committed such offences."
